“American households could save as much as $1,465 annually on average by utilizing online and mobile coupons” [1]. What I’ve learned from Budgeting and Couponing since the end of July 2023 to the present day end of December 2023. I have 5 months of experience in this topic and I have learned many lessons and experiences if you are someone who wants to start Couponing today.
10 Tips I Learned from Couponing
YouTube Video: Link
1.)As a beginner I recommend first to observe and learn from individuals who have Couponed for some time. I recommend reading books, watching YouTube videos, reading blog posts, etc anything couponing-related. To get your foot in the door with knowledge.
2.)As you have more knowledge now and know some of the couponing vocabulary and the ins and outs of this, you can start practicing it. The first month of IT will be a learning curve for you because it is something new to you.
Download couponing apps on your phone.
- Apps I recommend when starting are Ibotta, Fetch, and Rakuten only for the first 2 months. Some links take you to the app when you hover over the name and click on it. They are FREE links with referral codes that benefit you and me. At the end of the blog post, I have the referral codes and links if you want to check them out.
- Other apps I recommend in addition to the ones before are Shopkick, Flipp, Shopmium, Checkout 51, and apps from stores you shop at like Walmart, Target, etc…
3.) Once you have your apps and are getting the hang of them, you will see all the apps as individuals and how they will serve you for different purposes. All for couponing but with different benefits in saving money.
4.) If you all want an in-depth process and tips on how I use each app to its FULL potential let me know. And how to set up systems in place before going shopping that will give YOU back cashback in the form of money through Paypal or gift cards. Let me know through the comments on this blog post, email, or Instagram.
5.) Couponing is something you have to be doing consistently to see cashback from purchases. If you want the results (cashback money), you have to put in the time to coupon.
6.) It is best to take some time before going to the store to observe, write, and be intentional with your purchases. Make a list of what stuff you know you are buying and see offers, and cashback amounts given by each app. Write down the requirements of each product you need to buy. Take your list to the store while checking off every item and see if it is beneficial to you to go along with the couponing deal vs what you just buy regularly.
7.) Take someone on the journey with you, it is best to have someone to interact with and do this budgeting journey with. Someone who usually tags along your shopping and whom you want to share information with.
8.)Save all your shopping receipts no matter the total amount, they will help you in the future with data about your shopping. When you make an estimated budget for your finances, the receipts will come in handy.
9.) Using your phone is crucial to couponing now, every product deal is clipped within the app. You can still find people couponing with paper deals in the newspaper, but it is not as common and convenient nowadays. Have your phone charged and ready to go when shopping to reference back if you have a question about a product deal in the store when browsing.
10.) Do not feel discouraged easily when starting. The more you practice and get used to the apps and how they work it will be for you. You will know each app’s purpose and the best way to coupon without even thinking about it. As someone who has just 5 months of couponing, I can say it is worth it if you want to save money and make additional money on the side.
Backstory
- I am a 22-year-old female living in Texas who had never previously Couponed much less budgeted her money before. I was a spender rather than a saver financially. But as I am growing up and becoming more of an adult I am seeing more responsibilities coming and with that comes more maturity. So I observed that I needed to do some important shifts in my life regarding many areas of life for me to step into the future with confidence.
- Present day, end of December 2023, I have Couponed intentionally for 5 months NOW. And here in this blog post, I will share MY JOURNEY and help you out on yours.
- There is no gatekeeping in this blog site y’all!!!
Conclusion:
-Just trying to coupon can be something that will help in your finances. Extra money can be made if you take the first steps. If you try couponing and you see that the positives don’t outweigh the negatives, at least you tried to coupon. Rather than never trying and having a preconceived mindset of what couponing is and looks like, you don’t give it a chance.

Here below are screenshots of money I earned from Couponing. And these earnings for YOU can be higher or lower depending on how much money you budget/allocate to spending. If you have a lower spending amount you will earn less. If you have more people you shop for and a bigger spending money amount, your earnings will by default be higher. Also, it depends on how often you Coupon and if you even coupon, or if you coupon every so often.
